About SodaStream CO2 Cylinders
Your SodaStream CO2 cylinder is a pressurized cylinder and in Canada and the US it needs to be hyrdro-tested every five to 10years depending on the cylinder. We don’t need to get into an explanation of the process of hydrostatic testing but we do need to examine your cylinder before you come in for a refill. Every pressurized cylinder will have a manufacture date stamped into the crown of the cylinder as seen in the photo. This means the cylinder can be refilled as many times as you want for the next five to ten years. When it comes to SodaStream CO2 cylinders, sometimes they are stamped on the bottom with an expiry date (month and year). This stamp indicates that the cylinder can be refilled until the last day of that particular month.
Preparing your SodaStream Co2 Cylinder
Although not necessary, there are a few things you can do to assist in the refilling of your SodaStream Co2 cylinder. You can put your cylinders in the freezer the night before or even a couple hours before you visit the store. Chilling the cylinders speeds the filling process and produces less CO2 waste. After filling, keep your cylinder in a cool place (room temperature). Your SodaStream cylinder is equipped with a burst disc which is a pressure release mechanism. Your cylinder is filled with liquid beverage grade Co2 and your SodaStream machine is equipped with an expansion chamber that allows the Liquid CO2 to turn into a gas. If you come to the Store and fill your cylinders and then leave them in your hot car while shopping or at work, the heat will expedite the evaporation process within the cylinder and may trigger the burst disc. The Terra Model
