Paintball Marker or Gun?
by C. Jones Published 27-May-2011
Ever wonder why some people call a paintball gun a "marker" and others call it a "gun"? To answer this question we need to know a bit about the origins of the game. Let's dive into a little paintball history, which will take us back to the first paintball game ever played in 1981 and you'll learn why a paintball gun is called a "marker".
Player's Network
by C. Jones Published 25-Feb-2011New to the sport of Paintball? Looking for a place to play or new players to play with? One of the most commons questions we hear at the shop is "Where on Vancouver Island can you play Paintball?"
While Vancouver Island offers many great commercial Paintball facilities to attend, such as Point Blank Paintball in Comox, Midway Paintball in Duncan, and TNT Paintball in Victoria, there are still the "Renegade Paintballers" that love nothing better than to get together with other Paintballers on the weekend and enjoy this exciting sport.
We at Nicol Street would like to help you find each other, which is why we created this 'Player Network' page. If you are an individual paintball player, a group of players, a bonafide team, or just looking to expand and grow your game, post your contact information or event you're hosting in the comment section below - get the word out there!

NSP Paintball Game
by C. Jones Published 12-Nov-2010Nicol Street's 2010 Annual November 11th Paintball Game
The weather was questionable for the 6th annual November 11th paintball game, but anticipation was high. A record turnout was expected this year as word traveled fast amongst the Paintball community. The rain clouds kept away a few of the numbers, but when the dust settled and the smoke cleared (more about that later) an enthusiastic 39 devoted paintballers from all over the Mid Island region fell upon a small wooded area in the once quiet community of Cedar, British Columbia.
Once the Ghillie suits were doned and the safety rules were explained, players were assigned their teammates and the games were on!
We kicked things off with a good wholesome Zombie hunt. Three volunteers eagerly claimed the roles of the Zombies and were given a five minute head start to take up positions somewhere in the twevle acres alloted to our adventure. Zombies can only be eliminated with a "Head shot", however if a human is hit anywhere on their person or equipment by a Zombie ball that player becomes part of the Zombie army. After a thirty minute see-saw battle of Zombies creating more Zombies, the human race prevailed and the Zombie threat was eliminated!
Once everyone had their fill of saving Cedar from the influx of Zombies, we got down to one of our favorite capture the flag games. The teams are divided equally and stage at opposite ends of the field. Seven flags are stuck into the ground at the center of the field and in order to win teams must retrieve as many flags as possible from the middle and return them to their base. Only one flag can be grabbed at a time and if the player running with the flag is hit, that flag is dropped and is considered dead and cannot be picked up again.
With the convergence of so many targets in a small area in a short period of time (literally seconds!), this game gets the adrenaline pumping fast! Speed, accuracy, and cover fire are key in the success of this game. The newest addition to the Nicol Street Paintball product line was extremely popular when we played a few rounds of this game.
Battlefield Smoke Grenades!
We wrapped up the day with a marathon Capture the Flag game with the yellow team prevailing. Yours truly spent the last fifteen minutes out of ammo but still did my part by keeping heads down dry firing my Tippmann A5, until of course I was out of Air. (Then it was time to run for the hills!)
A big thank you to Shane and Jaqueline and their crew from Parksville, for making the trek down Island to shoot us all up! To our host Brian for letting us shoot up the joint many many thanks! Also to the dedicated volunteers from the North Cedar Fire Department, and the rest of the Fathers, Sons, mothers and wives that came out and made this one of the best November games we've had! See you all next time!
